Presentation: Grupo Galrão Today
For the last five decades, the history of Grupo Galrão has been mixed with the history of Portuguese sector of natural stones. Being pioneer and innovative, Grupo Galrão was the leader in the new technologies that marked the modernisation of the industry of extraction and transfomation of natural stones.
The first enterprise of the Grupo Galrão was founded in January 1955, designated as Eduardo Galrão Jorge & Irmão, Lda.. Located in the industrial zone of Pero Pinheiro, in its own lands, it was re-named during the 90's, to Mármores Galrão, S.A., due to a change in its memorandum of association.
Grupo galrão owns quarries located in the largest area for marble extraction in Portugal, that is in the anticlina of Estremoz-Borba-Vila Viçosa. Additionally, the Group has exhibition centres and warehouses spread across the country. During the 80's Granitos galrão Norte, Lda was created, adding a granites transforming company to the Group's structure. This allowed and still does Grupo Galrão to respond in a more comprehensive and generalising way to a whole wide range of marble and granite products.
Together with its marble and granites transforming units, storehouses / deposits and commercial areas, are also integrated within the Grupo Galrão the enterprises Rectilíneo Lda., from the civil engineering sector and the Eventual Lda., from the real estate and representation business areas, thus allowing a wide upstream and downstream inclusion of the activities performed by the group.
